Volunteer

Quality is our top priority at the Casper Humane Society. While we have committed to caring for 100 or more animals, ensuring their wellness, happiness, and success is a collective effort amongst our staff and volunteers.

We rely heavily on volunteers to provide undivided socialization and attention, as well as positive stimulation, exercise, and comfort to our animals. This is an important role not only within our organization, but also in making a difference in the lives of the animals on their journey in and out of the shelter.

Volunteering is a great opportunity to make a positive impact, advocate for, and support animals who need you.

All future volunteers are required to attend orientation and safety training to become familiar with our facility and procedures. This will help ensure proper handling and movement throughout the shelter and set our helping hands up for success.

Orientation and safety training will include the history of our organization, procedures and protocols, an explanation of volunteer opportunities, a tour of the shelter, and a demonstration of safe animal handling.

Training is held every Sunday and Thursday @ 1:00 pm at the shelter.
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Small Dog Socializer/Walker: Work with and socialize dogs in the Small Dog Department. This includes walking, yard time, brushing, or sitting in kennels for one-on-one time.
Large Dog Socializer/Walker: Work with and socialize dogs in the Large Dog Department. This includes walking, yard time, brushing, or sitting in kennels for one-on-one time.
Dog Special Needs: Work with dogs being treated for medical conditions, pregnancy, post-partum, or other circumstances permitted by management. This includes socialization or routine regarding their care, recovery, and comfort.
Field Trips for Dogs: Take dogs from your trained areas on out of shelter field trips. This may include car rides, walking trails, parks, or even to your home.

Cat Socializer: Work with and socialize cats in both the Lobby and Colony Rooms. This includes brushing, engagement with toys, and spending one-on-one time.
Cat Special Needs: Work with cats being treated for medical conditions, pregnancy, post-partum, or other circumstances permitted by management. This includes socialization or routine regarding their care, recovery, and comfort.
Kitten Care: Work with and socialize orphaned kittens. This may include feeding, pottying, and nurturing individual kittens or litters.

Help ensure special needs cases receive adequate time and attention by taking them home for a limited duration. This may include pregnant or nursing mothers, orphaned puppies/kittens, and severe or terminal illness/bodily injuries/medical procedures, or behavioral cases.

Our Foster Program is specifically designed for special needs only. General fostering is not typically considered due to our fluctuating population.

Eligibility for fostering will be considered based on the length of volunteer service or credentials working with past shelters or rescues.

Assist the Board of Directors, Executive Director, and/or Staff with fundraising/events. This may include helping set up for an event, working at an event, and sharing information regarding a fundraiser of any kind.

Registered volunteers may request to be placed on our call list to extend their help and dedication outside of the shelter.

Group Volunteering: Businesses and Organizations join us in a collective effort to help maintain the shelter property, clean, and socialize with animals.

Designed for a one-time experience, a group waiver must be filled out and returned at the time of a group's scheduled hour(s) to volunteer.
